Castello Monaci located in Salice Salentino in the province of Lecce in the Italian region of Apulia (the heel of Italy). The story starts in the 1920’s when Antonio Provenzano acquired a monastery, he continued to plant vineyards, and built a new cellar, now the home of the Wine Museum. Today three generations down the line Castello Monaco have over 350 acres of vineyards crafting wines from Southern Italy’s indigenous grapes Primitivo, Negroamaro and Malvasia Nera. The region of Apulia is drenched in the most intense sunlight in all of Italy tempered only by the Adriatic and Ionian seas which provide constant, cooling maritime winds. This unique climate helps produce exquisitely balanced fruit.
